If you are the head of an antivirus company…
Posted On September 29, 2008 | Filed Under WTF
You don’t want to use a mac. How much confidence do you have in your Microsoft Windows product that detects viruses if you yourself use an Apple MacBook Pro?
Norton should change their slogan to: Avoid Viruses – Get a Mac.

This got me pondering.
When I went and installed Mozilla’s Firefox instead of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer it was because I was told (made sense) that many of the viruses and security problems with Internet Explorer was -because- it was so common.
If you are a trouble making computer hacker you want to do the most damage for your efforts. You are going to select the most commonly used system and programs to adjust your program to be most effective.
So, by using Firebox as my browser I effectively get a bit of immunity from a bunch of security issues on the internet. Because so few use the browser very little malicious things out there are designed against it.
I think perhaps the same issue applies to this Mac thing.
It’s not that the Mac is so ‘blessed from on high’, it’s that if I want to write some malicious code I’m going to pick was 90+% of the world uses, a microsoft based system, to do my dirty deeds against.
In the same manner that I took up firefox; I’d have to agree that “going Mac” would offer the same level of security and freedom for the same reasons.
Myself, I detest Mac only for the fact that all I know that have them are utter snobs. (chuckle)
I know very little about the Mac’s but they look awesome. Back when I first decided on which system to purchase (1992) I purely made my decision on what software I could buy in the store. Let’s see.. 200 pieces of software for Microsoft Windows 3.1, 1 piece of software for Macintosh. Hmmm. (grin)
Anyway.. just wanted to point out the hacker types write code against the systems that are most popular.
Its not only that they chose the software that is used the most, it is also that to write anything like spyware or viruses for a mac, it takes alot more time and effort because they are harder to write due to all the security apple puts into/onto their computers
