My Love

My LoveMarilyn and I celebrated our 19′th wedding anniversary on June 17′th. 19 years. Since 1989.

It only seemed like yesterday that I was pressing my face up against the window in my dining room to get a glimps of her watering her flowers across the street. You see, most normal people would water flowers by either setting up a sprinkler, or if they were to do it with the hose, to turn the hose on the flowers. Point is to get the job done as fast as possible.

Marilyn on the other-hand would turn on the water so that it would just be a trickle. She would then go to a flower and water only that one. Then the next. So on and so forth. Now me being the guy I am, I thought she was doing this so that I would notice her. It always seemed to me that she would go out and water soon after I would get home from work. My thinking was that she wanted me.

After getting up the nerve to go meet her, I decided I had better dress appropriately. I had some pink and black spandex bike shorts that I had worn occasionally when I would go running (yea, I used to run). I figured what could be more appropriate then that. Toss in a tee shirt and I was styling.

The next problem I had was how to introduce myself. I could just go up to the door and say “Hi, I’m Mark”. That would have been the easy way to go about it, but she already knew who I was since she lived right next to my sister. Or at least I had hoped she knew who I was.

I had thought about grabbing a couple of beers from my fridge, but I was not sure Marilyn was a beer drinker. My sister always drank wine coolers, so I figured they would work. I did not have any in the apartment, so I had to run to the grocery store to get some. And yes, I was wearing my spandex shorts and a tee-shirt.

After finally figuring out that I had everything that I needed, I got the nerve to walk across the street and knock on the door. I’m sure I was a spectacular site. Pink and black spandex bike shorts (I still have those – and they still fit) carrying two wine coolers.

I’m not going to go into any details after she answered the door, but you can safely assume that it all went well since we have been married for 19 years. Maybe one of these days I’ll put the bike shorts on again and we can relieve that moment.

As most of you are probably aware, I bought the house across the street (and next to Mark’s sister) from the apartment Mark lived in. He liked to open the hood of his car and pretend like he was working on the engine. Most often he was wearing a ripped up pair of Levis and a wife-beater T. Yes, I used to watch him lean over the car while I was watering flowers. However, contrary to what he believes, the reason I went out at the same time every night to water was because I had just put Emily to bed. And honey, I’m sorry to say, I think you would rip the biker shorts out at the seams!! Nineteen years makes a big difference in the shorts size, for both of us, I’m afraid.

    I absolutely loved this entry.
You guys are so cute. Um.. I mean.. you guys rock! (there, that was appropriately manly).
I’m not sure though Marilyn, spandex can stretch over some pretty huge things. (heh)
